FOOD FOR THOUGHT PART 48

TERM LIMITS

It's about time we start holding these judges and political leaders accountable not only in each and every state across this country, but also on a national level. The U.S. Congress, house and senate are completely dysfunctional, partisan politics and gridlock are at an all time high. The best and easiest way to get rid of the grid-lock and partisan politics is to have “term-limits” that would eliminate the power and leverage the powerful lobbies have on politicians. The people in congress will never pass a law for term-limits, on their own, it has to be a grass-roots effort of the people to make this change. The Congress get paid over $100,000 a year for working 2 or 3 days a week, totalling about 4 or 5 months a year. That's a sweet deal they will never mess up by term limits, they want to stay there forever.

Powerful lobbies like the NRA keep a score card and report any lawmaker that votes on any law that applies to any kind of common sense gun control. They won't allow any gun safety laws to pass, even after tragedies like what jumped off in Connecticut. If a congress person votes on any law they don't approve of, they swing into action, spending millions to make sure they don't get re-elected, If there were term limits they couldn't hold anything over their heads and maybe some legislation can There are all kinds of lobbyist in Wash. D.C that contribute to congressmen and women's campaigns and they get laws passed or shot down to fit their agenda. Big companies and corporations do the same. These lobbies put up millions to get a person defeated if they don't play along with the game. Often they just straight up and down buy them a steak, like taking a ride with them, telling them what they want and need, then leaving an envelope filled with hundred dollar bills on the seat of the car when they leave, so no camera can catch the transaction. If there were a law saying they can only serve two terms, the lobbies wouldn't have so much power.

Another example is the ADL American Israeli Political Action Committee. Powerful Jewish organizations and lobbies spent millions of dollars in Atlanta Georgia to defeat Black congress woman Cynthia McKinney because she called for a more balance American view of the Palestinian/Israeli conflict. They also spent millions to defeat another Black congressman in Alabama because he dared to support the Palestinians. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not anti Semitic, The Jewish people have been through some of the same deplorable hatred against them as Blacks. Blacks with slavery and Jews and the holocaust and are included with blacks degraded by the hate groups. That's why it's hard for me to understand how they can mistreat another group of people like the Palestinians subjecting the women to degrading and humiliating searches at check points in the West Bank and Gaza, feeling them up and fingering their private parts, bulldozing down their homes and neighborhoods.

Israeli jets, made in the U.S, destroying whole sections of Palestinian cities, in an effort to conduct cold blooded ethnic cleansing of the Palestinians. Sure Israel is an U.S ally and deserves American support, but no one should support wrong. I don't care if it's a friend, ally or a member of your family, wrong shouldn't be supported anywhere. Plus, on top of everything I mentioned, Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu paraded in front of the U.N announcing they were building new settlements, which are illegal in the West Bank at a time when the U.S and other countries around the world, were requesting there be a halt on the settlements to try to achieve peace with the Palestinians. Netanyahu just gave the finger to the U.S and everyone else interested in Peace. Now keep in mind the U.S gives billions annually to support their military budgets, which allows them that much more money to spend on their occupation and control of the West Bank and Gaza. I’m talking about U.S, tax payer dollars getting caught up in the mix. Term limits would weaken their lobby and hold on congress. No person or country should be able to dictate U.S. Policy.

Another very disturbing thing happening in congress that term limits would resolve is the “Grover Norguist tax-pledge”. Norguist is a right-wing extremist that gets every Republican to sign a pledge that they will not vote yes on any law that would increase taxes, no matter how good it is for the country. He gets this promise or pledge while they are a candidate and reinforces it after they get into office. They can't compromise under any circumstances. That's crazy. There are a variety of reasons there are times that a tax is needed to be raised, but congress men and women that made that pledge are scared to death to go against this because Norguist's lobby has millions to spend to get them defeated. These congress people expect and want to stay in office for 30 or 40 years, but a term limit would take care of that problem. When Getting re-elected is more important than reaching across the isle for a compromise, making laws that benefit all Americans, there is a major problem. There needs to be a grass-roots effort, marching to Washington, demanding a change, then and then only will a law be passed for term limits, so laws and bills will be passed for the good of the people.

To be continued... Power to the People!!!
